Petrie, Walker
On Tuesday, August 6, 2024, our family held Walker’s hands, and it was with utter shock that we said goodbye to our beloved husband, father, poppa, brother, father-in-law and friend. “Hm” Walker would have said.
Born in 1950 and predeceased by his parents, Lois and Burns, Walker was raised on skinned knees and country music. Older brother to Ardis, Beth, Al and Glenda; he grew up in Busby, Alberta. In 1972 Walker and Donna “got married in a fever”. They spent their early married years in the greater Westlock area, and they welcomed three children: Corinne (Robert) in 1974, Clayton (Amanda) in 1978 and Aften (Jarrod) in 1980. Through their 52 years of marriage Walker and Donna camped, curled, danced, fished and traveled. They made so many friends along the way and welcomed so many beautiful grandchildren; all of whom Walker took great pride in.
Through the years he rode a motorcycle, adventured in a motorhome and drove too many tractors to name. There was never a lobster he didn’t eat or a person he wasn’t interested in getting to know. Walker worked so many different jobs; but the only job he could never quit was his job painting with Donna - even though daily, he did try! Most people have three given names: their first, middle and last. Walker Petrie only had two but if you ask Donna, she might say his two names were actually: “Ohhhh Walker”. He will be remembered for his remarkable generosity, his capacity to love, to entertain into the early morning hours and to drink more coffee than anyone in the room.
Walker never asked for much, but he did ask us to invite his friends and family to the Busby Hall so he could buy one last beer for everyone. If you are able to honour him with us in this way, we will see you there: Monday, August 19, any time between 1:30 and 3:30 PM.
