Dorothy Edythe Prokopchuk (Rhodes)

September 4/25 - July 8/22

On July 8th, 2022 at age 96 Dorothy Prokopchuk peacefully passed away into the loving arms of her Lord Jesus. Dorothy will be deeply missed and remembered by her family and friends for her legacy of faith, love and service. She was an example to us all.

Born Sept 4, 1925 Dorothy grew up on a farm in Caroline, Alberta. After high school she studied at Prairie Bible College. She followed that by studying nursing and then chose to work in pubic health in Lac La Biche. During this time she met Frank and after a short courtship they were married. Dorothy then joined him on the farm North of Athabasca. Dorothy enjoyed time spent with many of the extended family who came out to the farm. She and Frank also provided hospitality for many others. Dorothy loved to work in the garden, pick berries, and can and pickle fruits and vegetables. She was also involved in the farming, especially during lambing time when 24 hour care was needed for the sheep. Dorothy and Frank were very involved and committed to the local Athabasca Missionary Church. They spent much of themselves in order to help meet the needs of others. After Frank passed away, Dorothy spent about 8 years caring for her older sister. Dorothy loved her Bible and memorized many different passages. In her final years she endured the challenge of dementia with much grace. Her love for Jesus and her faith in him persisted until He took her home.

She is survived by her son John (Katherine), daughters Patty (Myron) and Joyce, grandchildren Nicole, Jason (Kim), Rebecca (Matt), Hannah, Natasha, Nathan, Naomi and Nadia, five great-grandchildren, Daylan, Rylan, Kaylie, Matthew and Blake.

Dorothy is predeceased by her husband Frank, Parents Richard and Marjorie Rhodes and siblings, Arthur, Helen, Cecil and David. She is survived by sister Lillian.
