Ristoff, Darvin Robert

(November 29, 1949 – March 21, 2021)

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of a wonderful father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Darvin Ristoff, at the age of 71 years.

Darvin is predeceased by his mother Freida, his father Wilhelm, his brothers James and Leslie, his sisters Norma and Lorraine, and many other beloved family and close friends.

He will be missed dearly by his three children, Tanya, Tara (Chad “Bozo”), and Matthew, three grandchildren, Ethan, Austin and Jesse, his brother Herbert Ristoff and family, and many extended family and friends.

Darvin was born in Barrhead, Alberta and raised nearby in Manola. After finishing school, he moved to Westlock, where he took his first job at the local feed mill. It would not be long before he would begin working at the United Farmers of Alberta, where he worked for 41 years before his retirement.

Darvin was a hard worker and immensely proud of his time with UFA. His children all have fond memories of visiting him at the store and hearing about his work. It was of great comfort over the past year to hear stories from those who had been a co-worker or a customer themselves, or whose family member had known him well. He treasured every milestone and every friend he made there.

Darvin lived a relatively quiet life, but after retiring in 2016, he kept busy socializing with friends, travelling to see his kids and grandkids (and grandpets!), and volunteering weekly at the Westlock Thrift Store. He loved to be of help and was the kind of guy you could call on at any time to lend a hand. He was deeply touched by the many friends and family who joined him in November 2019 for his 70th birthday celebration at the Westlock Inn. In hindsight, we are grateful for this memory, as it would be one of the last opportunities for him to be surrounded by his community of friends and family before COVID restrictions came into effect.

Our family would like to thank Dad’s doctors, Dr. Jabbari in Spruce Grove and Dr. Lokhandwala in Westlock, as well as all the staff at the Westlock Healthcare Centre and Westlock Continuing Care. Thanks to your care, Darvin’s final days were comfortable and peaceful.

Given current COVID restrictions, we will plan for an outdoor service to be held later in Spring/Summer. Details will be shared in Westlock News closer to the time.

In lieu of flowers and cards, the family graciously invites you to consider donating to the Alberta Cancer Foundation (www.albertacancer.ca) or the Second Chance Animal Rescue Society (www.scarscare.ca).
