SCHOOLER Ken web

Ken Vern Schooler, (June 9, 1949 - October 2, 2021) passed away after a short battle with lung cancer and now he’s soaring with the eagles.

Ken was born in Barrhead, AB as the youngest of nine children. He attended school in Tiger Lily/Barrhead. Ken got his Red Seal journeyman ticket in fire protection suppression. He started his career in Edmonton and then moved to Kelowna installing sprinklers in residential and commercial buildings.

Ken’s love of driving took him on many adventures with the love of his life, Sherrill and wife of 26 years. They travelled extensively throughout Canada and the United States including the Yukon, NWT and Alaska as well as the Baja. Ken and Sherrill, along their travels met many life long friends who made their travels even more memorable.

Ken will be best remembered for his sense of humour, quick dry wit and a twinkle in his eye. Ken was an avid reader, fan of music and loved sports such as baseball and pickleball. Ken was a quiet guy whose simplest pleasures brought him great joy; socializing with family and friends, sitting by a creek and the calmness of a fire.

Cherished family in his life are his siblings, Shirley, Vi (Herb), Bert, Ruth (Bernie) and Barb, Sherrill’s Mother Anita, Sherrill’s siblings Patricia, Diane (Ed), Stan (Gin) and grandson, Quinn and his mother, Tara plus numerous nieces and nephews. Family members that predeceased Ken; his Dad Roy when Ken was 10, his mother Gertrude, his sister Aldean, his brothers Sid, Grant and his father-in-law, Chester.

A special thank you to nurse-niece, Janelle for her compassionate ways in helping Ken with his final journey. We also would like to acknowledge and thank the medical staff for their care, empathy and knowledge.

Ken has requested no service but Sherrill has asked that you give your loved ones a “bear hug”, something that Ken was famous for.

“Your life was a blessing

Your memories a treasure

You are loved beyond words

And missed beyond measure”
