Charles Wesley “Wes” Stewart

August 30, 1918 - January 30, 2023

On January 30, 2023, Wes passed away at the age of 104 years.

He leaves to mourn numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He will be missed.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Gladys of over 70 years, and all 8 of his siblings.

Wes was born in Vera, Saskatchewan to Charles and Clementine Stewart. At the age of sixteen Wes went to Peace River County for work, and the only means of transportation was to “ride the rails”, a CNR boxcar. From Peace River Wes and his brothers travelled across Canada to Welland, Ontario, where they worked in the war factories. Later returning to Vermillion, AB, where he worked for Franko Oil operating a service rig. While working for Regent Drilling in 1947, on a site near Rochester, AB, he met Gladys Lewis and they were married March 30, 1948. They resided in Lloydminster until Wes began employment with Mobil Oil moving to Drayton Valley and then to Whitecourt. Wes was employed by Mobil Oil for 25 Years, retiring in 1980. At which time he and Gladys moved to an acreage in Perryvale, AB, and eventually moved to Westlock, AB.

Wes enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and camping. He also loved baseball and hockey. He never missed a Blue Jays or an Oilers Game on TV.

Fun loving Wes, always enjoyed a good joke and after a few sips of Canadian Club loved to entertain by singing some of his favorite” old-time” songs such as “you are my sunshine.” He was strong willed and feisty to the very end.

Wes was a very generous and giving person helping many people and donating to many charities throughout his life.

Cremation has taken place. A private graveside service for Wes will be held at the Perryvale Cemetery at a later date.
