Ernie Stobee

July 4, 1941 – July 31, 2022

It is with sadness that the family of Ernie Stobee announces his peaceful passing on July 31, 2022, (age 81) at the Athabasca Health Care Center.

Ernie was born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan to Victor and Elsie Stobee on July 4, 1941. He attended Windsor school in Saskatchewan and then Yorkton collegiate high school until 1959. Upon graduation he attended Sioux Falls College where he received a bachelor’s degree in fine arts.

In 1963, he married Joyce Anderson. During this time, he worked as a display manager at Sears and their daughters Christine and Lisa were born. The family moved to Edmonton where Ernie attended the University of Alberta and obtained a degree in Education which led to a teaching position in Valleyview, Alberta where their son Micah was born.

In 1968, they moved to Athabasca where Ernie became the art teacher until his retirement in 1997. After his marriage was dissolved in 1971, he met and married Rosalie Sereda in 1973. They had 3 sons, Jonathan, Joel, and Joshua.

Ernie had many interests, skills and hobbies that ranged from outdoor activities to creative pursuits like construction, building guitars, and jewelry making. If a particular piece of equipment was needed, he would design and manufacture it. He eagerly shared his vast knowledge and skills with others, particularly his sons.

A faithful, active member of the church all his life, he loved the Lord dearly and enjoyed sharing his

faith.  A compassionate, kind and generous man, he always had an encouraging word for others. He loved his family very much, enjoyed being in their company, and was proud of them. He delighted in his grandchildren.

His quiet, gentle spirit will be deeply missed.

Mourning their loss are his wife, Rosalie; his children: Christine (Paul) Cook, Lisa (Peter) Drew, Jonathan (Shelley), Joel (Gayetan) and Joshua; 12 grandsons, 2 granddaughters and 8 great grandchildren. He also leaves his brothers: Victor and Leslie; sister: Eunice; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as his church family.

Ernie was predeceased by his parents, two infant brothers, and son Micah.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on August 6, 2022 at Aspen Ridge Christian Fellowship.

Anyone who wishes to make a memorial donation in Ernie’s name can do so to the Athabasca Healthcare Auxiliary Association - 3100 48 Ave, Athabasca, AB T9S 1M9, or to a charity of their choice.
