Thomson (nee Kilger), Ansgard Friederun
Aug 22/1923-August 31/2021
Our “Tante ‘’ Ansgard, who passed away on August 31 after a short spell in hospital, was born in Falkenhain, Germany. One of seven children, she was the last surviving child of Johannes and Susanna Kilger. She studied nursing and worked in Germany, France and later in Canada after she followed her two sisters, Ruthild and Helga, here.
She continued nursing until she met and married her handsome RCAF veteran and agrologist, Walter Thomson. They settled in the Fort Assiniboine, AB area, Walter farming and ranching and Ansgard teaching kindergarten and being a self-described farmer’s wife. She re-kindled her love of art by painting and drawing on paper and later digitally on her computer, even designing her own web site which she maintained into her 90’s. Some of her art has been published and has been displayed in art shows around Alberta and even once in New York City. After Walter’s death she moved to an Edmonton condo and later to a seniors’ complex where she was always surrounded by her art displayed on her walls and on her devices. Her last days before her injury were spent putting out the candles on her 98th birthday cake with family in Ardrossan, talking philosophy with a fellow resident in her building and showing off her art to her nephew on her newest computer. She leaves behind her step-daughter Elspeth in British Columbia, nieces and nephews in Austria, Germany and Canada, and friends and relatives around the world. She also had an extensive online presence of which she was very proud. As per her wishes there will be no funeral or memorial service. Her ashes will be buried beside her beloved Walter in the Field of Honour in Hillcrest Cemetery in Fort Assiniboine, AB. Share your memories and condolences on social media or read about her on her resurrected web site http://ansgardthomson.ca. She would have loved that! Auf wiedersehen and au revoir liebe Tante Ansgard.
