Laura Young (nee) Elgert

It is with great sadness that the family of Laura announces her passing in Vancouver, BC two days after her 93rd birthday.

Laura was born on the family farm north of Fawcett, AB in the family home that still stands today on the Elgert farm. She attended Clyde Lake School until her teenage years. After finishing school, she cooked for numerous relatives lumber camps, she also worked for Alex Kaliel at the Fawcett store. From there she left Fawcett going to work in Wetaskiwin, Calgary then onto Vancouver, BC.

After working in various places, the Bayshore Inn opened and Laura got a job in the dinning room working her way to heard waitress and hostess. Hosting a variety of customers from politicians to movie stars and Royalty. It was there she met her future husband, Robert Young. Laura worked at the Bayshore Inn for 38 years until her retirement. Through her life and after she retired she traveled to many places around the world, Hong Kong, Japan, Hawaii, the Middle East, Israel, Egypt, Kenya, South & South West Africa.

In the fall for many years she came home to the family farm in Fawcett to visit and pick wild blueberries and cranberries, canning them and taking them back to her home which was a short walk from Stanley Park.

Laura was predeceased by her parents, Edward Sr and Vera, siblings; Edward G, Roland, Arnold, Rita, Evelyn. And by her husband Robert Young. Laura is survived by two sisters, Eleanor & Hildagarde, numerous nieces and nephews. Lovingly remembered by all your family. RIP. A Life well lived!
