Inger Zingeler
May 28th, 1937 – April 24th, 2023
Inger Zingeler passed away peacefully on April 24th, 2023 surrounded by her two sons and daughter. She was 85. Inger was born May 28th, 1937 in Hillerød, Fredricksborg, Denmark. She was raised on a farm and had many happy memories of her childhood in Denmark. She moved to Canada with her family and settled in Athabasca, Alberta in 1948. Inger became an x-ray technician at the local hospital which started her life-long journey in healthcare. Inger raised her three children in Calgary where she instilled them with confidence and the belief that you could do anything you set your mind to. She was an active community member and worked as an E.N.T. technician. She moved to Victoria in 1980 where she worked at a doctor’s office and the two local hospitals. Victoria was her home for over 40 years where she made many close friends. Her recent move to Steveston to be closer to family was all too brief - she still had a lot of living to do.
Inger loved her family and friends and was always thrilled to visit or have people over to her cozy home. Always stylish and hospitable, she was one of the most loving people you could meet. She had a special place in her heart for her kids, her grandchildren, and especially her great-grandsons.
Inger was extremely giving and caring – shown by her unflagging love of family, her career in healthcare, her role as a companion to many seniors throughout Victoria as well as the many parties and get-togethers she organized. She was the consummate, vital hostess – loving to cook, play music, share laughs and fun.
She will be dearly missed by her sons Allan (Diane), Michael (Joan), daughter Jennifer Hamilton (Dan), her grandchildren Jeffrey, Stephanie, Kristine McIntyre (Stephen) and Jeremy and her great grandsons Cassin and Lee, her sister Anne Kuzyk and of course all her friends and extended family. Inger was predeceased by her father Axel Jørgensen, her mother Helen Knudsen and her brother Knud Jørgensen.
She will be remembered for her incredible strength, unending energy, ‘can-do’ attitude, flair for fashion and her extraordinary capacity to love and nurture. She cared deeply about her family and friends, and it was common for her to be helping others in a very personal one-on-one, compassionate manner.
The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Richmond General Hospital for their compassion and care as well as all the support from her extended family and friends. A celebration of Inger’s life will be held in the fall in Victoria.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the BC Lung Foundation or Richmond General Hospital Foundation.
