WINNIPEG — RCMP say two men died Saturday in a pair of separate drownings in an area near the Manitoba capital.

Mounties say officers were called to Renolds Ponds, about 82 kilometres east of Winnipeg, after bystanders reported that a male swimmer didn't resurface.

They say a 70-year-old man from Ontario was pulled from the water.

Just hours later, police were called to a beach northwest of the city where two men had gone out on the lake with a pool flotation device, but lost their balance and fell in.

One was rescued by a nearby kayaker, but a 25-year-old from Winnipeg was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police continue to investigate the drownings.
