Get out and enjoy the Fair

In case you’ve been living under a rock for the past couple of weeks, this is a reminder that this upcoming weekend will give way to tons of fast-paced excitement as Barrhead hosts its annual Blue Heron Fair Days.

In case you’ve been living under a rock for the past couple of weeks, this is a reminder that this upcoming weekend will give way to tons of fast-paced excitement as Barrhead hosts its annual Blue Heron Fair Days.

A lot of work has once again been poured into three full days of activities, and it’s guaranteed that there will be something for everyone, no matter what your age is or what kind of activities you like.

It all gets underway on Friday, and perhaps the most anticipated event of the entire year will draw in thousands of people. The entire town is revved up for the demolition derby, and it’s sure to bring with it high-octane entertainment, the likes of which you could only find at an event of this nature.

The rodeo is also another major drawing point for the Fair Days. Barrel racing, calf roping, and bronco and bull riding – these are just an example of what will be witnessed this weekend.

For those out there who complain there is nothing to do in Barrhead, here’s your chance to get out and take it all in. Even if you’re a couch potato, the Barrhead and District Agricultural Society is once again bringing in a fresh air cinema. Don’t forget to bring a non-perishable food item, because with free admission, it only makes sense that an event like this should benefit the less fortunate.

The majority of the events that will unfold over the weekend are the kind that are synonymous with northern Alberta. Rodeos, beef and horse shows and baseball tournaments are what we are all about, right?

This year, the agricultural society has decided to highlight in its theme the contributions of youth. Barrhead and the surrounding communities already have a solid core of young people who time and time again step up and strut their stuff in events like rodeos and animal shows. This area is well-known for its strong 4-H clubs, and it’s the members of those clubs who will be the farmers of tomorrow. It’s only right that they are recognized at an event that will bring in thousands of spectators.

Take advantage of this opportunity to witness what Barrhead has to offer. This is a great festival, and a great way to celebrate the way of life here in northern Alberta. It’s definitely cheap, if you think about it, because you don’t have to travel anywhere to see the thrills and spills of rodeo. It’s right here, in our own back yard, and it’s open to everyone. Get out and enjoy it.
