Kowalski best man for the job

Dear Editor,

I have to wonder about the perspicacity of certain individuals who are chasing a job, especially a political one, of a person who has held the position for quite a number of years and who most people I know hold that person in very high esteem.

I am of course talking about Link Byfield of the Wildrose Alliance Party, whose attack on the sitting member of the Alberta Legislature for Barrhead, Westlock, Morinville and speaker of the Legislature as being one who stonewalls and does not address the concerns of his constituents forthrightly, honestly and with a profound knowledge of what transpires in his jurisdiction, as being erroneous in the extreme.

I have had the good fortune to contact Mr. Kowalski on several occasions on matters of concern to me, by mail and telephone, and if he did not get back to me by telephone, he’d have a letter in the mail to me in very short order.

I remember about three years ago contacting then-premier Ralph Klein, Health Minister Iris Evans and MLA Ken Kowalski on matters relating to health care in the province, and all three of them responded to my concerns individually with the assurance that my suggestions would be brought to the attention of the Caucus and that any suggestions of merit would be acted upon and many were, and I was duly notified in each case. You cannot get it better than that and unless Ken resigns before the next election or Christ decides to run against him, he’ll get my vote. Even in that event it may still be a toss-up.

The question that used to go around was, “Why are you running against a good man like that?”. The answer was, “because he’s got the job and I want it.” I guess it is still true today.
