Most fundraising projects are all about teamwork.
Without a concerted effort, there are many projects that may never have come into existence. Teamwork is vital, and it will be needed to ensure a new pool is made a reality for residents of the town and county of Barrhead.
The Town has backed the Barrhead and District Agrena Society’s plans to seek preliminary drawings for a new facility. These drawings aren’t cheap, and it will take the financial contributions of both the town and the county to make it happen. The building committee for the new pool anxiously awaits an answer from the County as to whether or not it will fund half of the bill for the drawings. It can be argued back and forth until the cows come home about which residents most utilize the current aquatic centre. Statistics can be sketchy at the best of times, but there is evidence that County residents constitute a large number of pool users. As such, Town councillors are of the frame of mind that the County should pony up and help fund the new pool.
In a survey conducted by the County, half of its respondents stated that the County should not be dishing out any money toward the new facility. It would be interesting to know which residents answered in that fashion. A pool only stands to benefit a community, and it will draw in people from all over who compete at various meets. This, in turn, will bring with it many economical spin offs, because those people will need places in which to sleep, and they will eat at our restaurants.
Everyone needs to be on board for this new pool to happen. There are many residents who are excited at the prospect of a new pool, because the current facility is quickly becoming obsolete. Luckily, there is an organization like the Barrhead and District Agrena Society leading the way. The Society decided in April to lead the fundraising project for a new aquatic centre, but only if they get enough support from the community. At a meeting held several months ago, more than 20 people showed up to pledge their support to the initiative. As such, a building committee was formed, and members of that committee have been busy ever since collecting data and devising plans for the new pool.
This community has time and time again stepped up to the plate to raise funds for its own benefit. It is without a doubt that residents will once again heed the call to arms in the quest for a new pool; however, it must be reiterated that everyone needs to be on the same page.
