So much to do!

If the flurry of events in town over the weekend is any indication, it’s going to be a good summer in the Westlock region.

If the flurry of events in town over the weekend is any indication, it’s going to be a good summer in the Westlock region.

This weekend saw hundreds of people downtown for Wacky Saturday, which was by all measures a successful reinvention of the former annual festival into a family-oriented summer kickoff activity.

On top of that, there was the 20th annual Antique Tractor Show hosted by the Vintage Tractor & Machinery Club on Saturday and Sunday, which drew hundreds of spectators to the wide variety of events.

The Westlock Gators hosted the season’s first swim meet, with several swimmers earning top-three finishes.

Hundreds of young athletes and their supporters descended on Westlock for that event, and made use of one of the town’s excellent recreation facilities.

Keller Field also saw its fair share of excitement this weekend with the Harvey J. Doherty Memorial Baseball Tournament from Friday to Sunday, where fans could take in more than half a dozen games or more in just a few days.

In coming weeks, the action won’t stop either.

Next weekend, there will be a triathlon in town, an amateur rodeo up at the Long Island Lake Saddle Circle, and of course Busby Farmers Days — another option for family-friendly fun.

The week after will be the Clyde Ag Society’s first-ever Summer Solstice Parade and Fair, which will see another host of activities including a ball tournament, a pancake breakfast and events for kids.

After that there is community fair just a short way outside the county’s northeast boundary in Newbrook, then the weekend after there will be Canada Day celebrations throughout the region.

Throughout the rest of the summer there are countless things to do in the region, getting residents off their couches and out of their houses.

While not every activity or event is going to be popular with every person, there is without doubt a little something for everyone, so take advantage of what our community has to offer and be a part of it!
