No life-threatening injuries in Perryvale collision

Head-on collision caused by sedan crossing the center line say RCMP
car-crash
A Highway 2 collision March 12 left a semi truck hauling gravel 100 meters from the highway after it rolled over.

PERRYVALE — Anyone driving past Perryvale on Highway 2 March 12 would have noticed the wreckage of two cars — one in each ditch — but RCMP say everyone walked away without major injuries.

According to a press release from Athabasca RCMP Const. Kyle Hotchkiss, shortly after 11 a.m., members of the detachment, the Athabasca and Colinton Fire Departments, and EMS responded to a two-vehicle collision on the highway.

A passenger vehicle was located in the east side of the ditch, while the semi, which had been hauling gravel, was located in the west ditch, 100 meters from the highway.

According to the RCMP’s preliminary investigation, a small sedan was travelling southbound on Highway 2 when it crossed the centre line and struck the semi-truck on the driver's side, causing the semi to lose control and hit the ditch at a high rate of speed.

The impact caused the truck to roll over before coming to a complete stop on its passenger side.

Both drivers were the sole occupants of the vehicles and were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Athabasca RCMP said they are expecting to see an increase in motorists using the roads and highways as the spring approaches and warm weather arrives. The RCMP would like to remind the public to conduct safe driving practices, obey posted signs, and plan your trip ahead. Members of the public are strongly encouraged to report any suspicious vehicles or driving patterns. If you wish to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), online at www.P3Tips.com or by using the “P3 Tips” app available through the Apple App or Google Play Store.
