Over the last couple of years, a lot has changed in the world of RVing.

Nobody knows exactly what is going to happen, but we do know that things are changing. Here are my top five predictions for what RVing will look like in the near future:

  1. Finding a campsite will continue to be difficult

As more and more people embrace the RV lifestyle, campsites at popular destinations will continue to be difficult to secure. This may spur private landowners to open new campgrounds that offer a wide range of amenities. Look for theme or resort style campgrounds to pop up around the province that cater to families on vacation.

  1. More people will choose to live full-time in their RVs

The COVID-19 pandemic gave many people a glimpse of what it is like to work from home and some people will choose to never return to their offices. This trend, along with rising housing costs, might have some people giving up their traditional house goals and investing in a gorgeous RV instead. Working from spectacular locations all over North America might be appealing to quite a few people.

  1. New RVs will become more energy efficient

As fuel costs continue to rise, hauling a huge 5th wheel up a mountain or across the country might become prohibitively expensive. Expect more energy efficient options to come onto the market like electric trucks that can pull an RV, electric camper vans, or lighter-weight trailers. Built-in solar panels along with LED lighting options will also become standard in new RVs.

  1. New RVs will also be more like home

With more people living full-time in their RVs, it will be more common to find units that are more like tiny homes rather than camping trailers. Expect to find comfortable sitting areas, beautiful décor, and convenient upgrades. These units will also be ready for four-season camping, but we will have to see if they can handle our frigid Alberta winters.

  1. Costs will continue to increase

As with everything else, the costs of RV camping will continue to increase. Expect campground fees to go up as well as the costs for insuring your rig. You will continue to have to increase your budget for fuel costs as well. RV camping is becoming less and less economical as inflation continues to rise and I expect that trend to continue. It will still remain a more affordable option than staying in a hotel, though.

Whatever the future holds for the RV lifestyle, embrace it every chance you can get. It will always be a fantastic way to experience everything that our gorgeous natural landscapes have to offer.
