Will Claire and Brett Phillips make it a three-pete? The Phillips won the residential Christmas decorating contest put on by the Town of Athabasca in 2020 and 2021. ATB Financial is also on the verge of a third-in-a-row win and challenge other businesses to enter the contest. The form can be found at the Town of Athabasca office or on their website.

ATHABASCA — It's time to sparkle.

The Athabasca District Chamber of Commerce has you covered with multiple events taking place as part of their multi-day 'Tis the Season shop local campaign encouraging everyone to stay in town and shop where buying local keeps four times the money in the local economy instead of zipping into St. Albert or Edmonton.

There's a lot to do this coming weekend, whether you're looking to get a Christmas photo with your favourite pup or kitty, trying to shine bright, or you just want to take in some seasonal community spirit, while picking out treasures for loved ones.

On Nov. 19 you can get your pet photos at Tracker’s Pet Supply from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and then be sure to take in the Sparkle Tree Lighting at Riverfront Park from 4 to 6 p.m. as well as a number of other activities, including hot chocolate, sponsored by Athabasca Home Hardware and face painting and glitter tattoos, sponsored by Boven's Jewellery & Giftware and Tracker's Pet Supply. There will also be fire pits to help you keep warm while taking in the seasonal glee, sponsored by ObaTel and Oba Brothers Wood. Tents, heaters and lighting are sponsored by Select Rentals.

Have you been decorating your home or business and want to win a prize?

Submit photos of your decorated home or business to the Town of Athabasca office to be entered to win a prize. The deadline for businesses is Nov. 27 while residential entries have until Dec. 11. The business category winner will be announced Dec. 3 at the Winter Parade and the residential prize will be awarded at the Town of Athabasca council meeting Dec. 20.

And be sure to keep saving your receipts from participating businesses, dated between Nov. 1 and Dec. 5, and take them to the Athabasca Advocate office to get dollar-for-dollar auction money to bid on amazing items from your favourite businesses in the Kick-off to Christmas Silent Auction. Check out all the items up for grabs at the office beforehand if you wish.

And as if that wasn’t enough, Morning Star Ink is hosting a “Crafty Make ‘n’ Take” Dec. 2-3 from noon to 2:30 p.m.

Be sure to catch the fireworks Dec. 2 starting at 8 p.m. at the riverfront and the 'Tis the Season to Celebrate Christmas Parade taking place Dec. 3 starting at 4 p.m.

Coming events and information can be found on the Athabasca District Chamber of Commerce Facebook page or website
