Bolloque Lake fire “being held”

Westlock County Fire Services still remain on standby to provide help at scene of 188-hectare blaze

As of 4 p.m., May 7, the 188-hectare wildland fire in the area of Range Road 252 and Township Road 640, near Bolloque Lake in the northern end of Westlock County, has been reclassified as “being held."

WESTLOCK - As of 4 p.m., May 7, the 188-hectare wildland fire in the area of Range Road 252 and Township Road 640, near Bolloque Lake in the northern end of Westlock County, has been reclassified as “being held” by provincial fire crews, while Westlock County Fire Services remain on standby to provide mutual-aid assistance.

According to the most-recent update, AESRD air and ground crews remain on scene to finish containing the fire and efforts are being concentrated on the northern flank as there is approximately 28 per cent more to complete for “total extinguishment.” Officials say that residents in the vicinity of the blaze are no longer at risk, but “should remain vigilant at all times.”

Emergency crews also continue to request that anyone not required to be in the area to please stay out and If you see a wildfire in a forested area, report it immediately by calling 310-3473.
