REDWATER – Officers from the Redwater, Westlock, and Athabasca RCMP detachments, alongside numerous other units, executed an arrest warrant Jan. 23 at a rural residence in Thorhild County.

According to a Jan. 24 release from Const. Kelsey Davidge, the warrant was issued following an investigation into an aggravated assault that occurred July 30.

Police say that upon their arrival, the accused was sitting in a stolen vehicle. After initial contact with police, the man fled the scene, narrowly avoiding striking a police officer. RCMP say they followed the suspect and were eventually able to disable the vehicle and arrest the man.

Justin Alexander McKinney, 31, was arrested on multiple warrants, including the warrant for aggravated assault. In addition, McKinney was charged with two counts of fraudulently taking property, failing to stop for a peace officer, possession of property obtained by crime, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

McKinney was remanded into custody following an appearance before a justice of the peace, and will appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort Saskatchewan Jan. 25, 2024.
