Butcher store bandits arrested

Two Westlock residents have been arrested and charged following an overnight break in June 23 at the Westlock Butcher Shop.

WESTLOCK – Two suspects face charges of burglary and possession of stolen property over $5,000 following an overnight break in at the Westlock Butcher Shop last week.

According to a June 27 RCMP release, on June 23 at approximately 8 a.m., members of the Westlock RCMP Detachment were called to the butcher shop which had been broken into overnight and “a significant amount of product and tools were stolen.”

At approximately 5:30 p.m., June 24, local members, with assistance from the Traffic Services section, executed a search warrant on a local residence as “sufficient information was gained to identify a suspect and allow the Westlock RCMP Detachment to identify an address of interest.” Subsequently, following their raid, police were able to recover “a large amount of the store’s products and tools.”

“The Westlock RCMP would like to thank the public for their assistance with this investigation. The information received led to a successful investigation and the recovery of a significant volume of stolen property,” reads the release.

Travis Leo Jean, 33, of Westlock was arrested and charged with break and enter, theft, as well as possession of stolen property over $5,000. Angela Wells, 44, was also arrested and charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000. Police say Wells has been released and is awaiting her first court appearance, while Jean remains behind bars and will make his first appearance in Westlock Provincial Court June 29.
