Canada Day revellers will have their eyes on the sky July 1 as a pair of Royal Canadian Air Force fighter jets will break the sound barrier over town.
The two CF-18 Hornets will fly over Westlock Saturday, July 1 at approximately 10:30 a.m. on their tour of the province in celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday.
“It’s very cool,” said mayor Ralph Leriger Saturday.
“It’s also a good thing when everyone knows they’re coming. I remember I was at a Grey cup once and I was looking to my left and they came from the right and I just about jumped right out of my shoes.”
Westlock is the first stop of the provincial tour for the planes as following their pass over town, the fighters will head north to Fawcett before heading on to Athabasca.
