Residents of Morinville and the surrounding area can expect delays on Highway 2 between the Highway 642 and Highway 18 junction near the Village of Clyde.
The construction began on June 23, with the 15-kilometre stretch between Highway 642 and Highway 651 being closed to one lane. The construction will continue north on Highway 2 from Highway 651 to the Highway 18 junction between the Town of Westlock and the Village of Clyde.
The highway is undergoing a seal coating, a preventative pavement layering technique that involves applying asphalt-based material to seal cracks and prevent damage from water, wear and oxidation.
The road is currently down to one lane with a pilot vehicle and flag persons directing the course of traffic. Drivers should be aware of the speed reduction, no centreline marking, no passing and loose chips while travelling.
The Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors asks that drivers watch for workers and equipment on the roadway, be cautious of the loose gravel and reduce speed when passing through the work zone.
The project is expected to be complete by Aug. 31, 2025.
