WESTLOCK – A beautiful sunny Sunday morning, Aug. 13, made it perfect for those attending the Westlock Flying Club’s annual fly-in/drive-in breakfast at the Westlock Municipal Airport.

This year organizers noted that turnout was one of the best in history as folks were treated to a pancake, sausage and egg breakfast along with lots of “shop talk” around planes and flying in general.

“It was one of the best showings they ever had. There was a lot of people that showed up and the organizers did a wonderful job,” said Westlock County Coun. Sherri Provencal who attended the event, while reeve Christine Wiese and Lac Ste. Anne-Parkland MLA Shane Getson also spoke during the breakfast.

Speaking at the Aug. 15 county council meeting, Provencal noted that Dan Charrois, who’s a member of the airport advisory board, received a director’s award “for the outstanding contribution to general aviation.”

“He does a lot for our community and I think that was a great award and he deserved it 100 per cent,” Provencal added.

While many locals drove, many also flew in from near and far. Michelle and Shane Madson flew in from their place a few miles west of Westlock while Keith and Kari Taylor and family, who live north of town, flew in not one, but three small planes.

On the board recording where they came from, some were noted from Morinville, Hondo, Slave Lake, Lac La Biche, Josephberg, Cooking Lake, Hinton and Grande Prairie.
