A Fire Control Order is now in effect for the Westlock County Jurisdiction as of April 30.
No new Fire Permits will be issued, and all active permits will be suspended until it is deemed safe for environmental conditions to reinstate them. The county asks that if anyone had a fire recently, to ensure it was put out safely and effectively.
The new ban has prohibited the following:
- Exploding Targets and Tracer Rounds
- Backcountry wood fire pits on public lands or unsupervised random campgrounds
- Open flame oil devices such as tiki torches and deep fryers
- Discharging fireworks and burn barrels
- OHV off-highway vehicles for recreational purposes
Activities/devices that are allowed:
- Backyard fire pits
- Incinerators with the proper environmental protection regulations
- CSA approved or UL certified portable propane fire pits, cooking or heating devices
- Safe wood fires in registered camp grounds.
Westlock County is urging everyone to supervise and extinguish all fires during windy and dry conditions and to ensure you have water, fire blanket and extinguishing equipment on hand at all times.
