WESTLOCK – In their first competitive season since 2019, the Westlock Gators Swim Club wrapped up the season with a celebration supper with members, coaches and parents at the Westlock Aquatic Centre Aug. 18.

Prior to the supper, awards were handed out to two members who were always enthusiastic and ready, whether just practicing, or in competition, and ready to help out fellow members.

Kali Borst won the Junior Heart and Hustle Award, while the senior prize went to Grayson Weder. Swimmer of the Year winner went to Elyse Saunders, who was unable to attend.

Head Coach Kailee Martinson said this year the Gators had 29 swimmers registered. She said members attended five different regional meets and one provincial meet. Nine members qualified for provincials and had 13 individual swims, she added.

“This year, the club was largely made up of first year swimmers, and new swim club families. We look forward to it continuing to grow next season,” Martinson said.

She offered special thanks to Gators sponsors the Town of Westlock and Westlock Sobeys.

For young swimmers interested in joining the club, the 2023 season trial week will be held the first week of May and is free of charge for the duration of the week.
