Grande Praire man charged following Friday-night fatal rollover

A 21-year-old Grande Prairie man faces multiple charges, including impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death, following a Friday-night, single-vehicle rollover that claimed the life of a 23-year-old Dapp man.

On Aug. 19 at approximately 10:30 p.m., Westlock RCMP members with the assistance of emergency services responded to a serious motor vehicle rollover near Highway 44 and Highway 661. Five occupants were in a truck when it went off the highway and rolled.

A 23-year-old passenger from Dapp was declared dead on scene, while a 23-year-old passenger from Westlock was airlifted to hospital via STARS Air Ambulance with serious, but non-life threatening injuries. A 23-year-old passenger from Dapp was also transferred to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A 20-year-old passenger from Westlock and the driver did not require medical attention. No other vehicles were involved in this incident, while a collision analyst attended the location to assist in this investigation.

On Tuesday, Aug. 23, RCMP announced that Ryan Paul Ouellette, 21, of Grande Prairie faces single counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death, impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death and impaired operation over 80 mgs per cent of a motor vehicle causing death and two charges each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm, impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm and impaired operation of a motor vehicle.

Ouellette was released on his own recognizance with several conditions and his first appearance in Westlock Provincial Court is scheduled for Sept. 14.

A 36-year-old motorcyclist is dead after a high-speed accident near Alcomdale last Friday. On Aug. 19, shortly before 5 p.m., Morinville RCMP responded to reports of a motor-vehicle accident near the intersection of Township Road 564 and Highway 2, south east of Alcomdale. An RCMP release states that a motorcycle was travelling north along Highway 2 when it struck a pickup truck attempting to make a u-turn. The male driver of the motorcycle was assessed with serious life-threatening injuries on scene and airlifted by STARS Air Ambulance to hospital in Edmonton. RCMP reported Aug. 22 that the man had succumbed to his injuries in hospital on Aug. 21. The truck’s driver was assessed and treated on scene by emergency services. The names of both drivers has not been released.
