Westlock RCMP responded to a highway collision on Highway 44 and Township Road 590 at approximately 2:45 p.m. on July 18.
The incident occurred when an SUV was attempting to turn westbound from the northbound lane when a sedan collided with its rear bumper. It was a high-velocity impact that resulted in one person being trapped in the vehicle.
“Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to extricate the one trapped person. Once extricated, EMS stabilized the patient for STARS transport," John Biro, manager of protective services for the County, said.
The highway was shut down for 30 minutes during STARS’ landing and departure.
There were no fatalities, but STARS transported one to the hospital while the two children in the SUV were taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
The RCMP are currently investigating the cause of the collision. Biro would like to thank those who assisted in the incident until emergency services arrived.
