WESTLOCK – Three people were sent to hospital with minor injuries, while a Morinville woman faces a $243 ticket following a Monday-afternoon, two-vehicle collision at the intersection of highways 2 and 18.
Westlock RCMP Staff Sgt. Al Baird says that around 1:30 p.m., July 25, a black Chevrolet Cruz turning left from Highway 2 on to Highway 18 collided with a Ford Fiesta that was heading east. Baird said the female driver of the Cruz, who hails from Morinville, faces a $243 fine as she was ticketed for failing to proceed safely after stopping at an intersection. Baird said the driver and passenger in the Fiesta, along with a passenger in the Cruz, were taken to the Westlock Healthcare Centre with minor injuries and later released.
Baird said they sent out a pair of notifications via the Westlock and Area Crime Coalition, first around 2:20 p.m. alerting drivers to steer clear of the area due to the crash and a second, that came at 4:15 p.m., alerting the public the road was again open.
“We sent the alert out because it was basically stopping traffic — we had to divert traffic around the intersection. So, we wanted to keep people from being backed up at there as there were other routes people could take to Edmonton or locations north,” Baird explained.
