Local students dominate Skills Alberta Regional Competition

Students from R.F. Staples Secondary School and Barrhead Composite High School competed in carpentry, mechanics, baking and hairstyling categories at regional competition.

Students from R.F. Staples Secondary School and Barrhead Composite High School showcased their exception talents at the Skills Alberta Regional Competition on April 5. The Northern Institute of Technology (NAIT) hosted a number of incredible students from various schools across the region. 

The competition had students from R.F. Staples place highly in a wide set of skills. Josef Pidsadowski placed first in Carpentry with fellow student Jaxon Lorimer placing fourth. Adam Moscaluk took home first place in Mechanics.

The creative arts category saw Paisley Budgen and Layla Forbes compete in the Baking category where Budgen took fifth. Karley Regimbald competed in the wedding hair category to get second and Angelina LaBouxciere qualified for the Hairstyling Senior Competition. 

Barrhead Composite High School also had a terrific run at the competition. Riley Manz and Mike Knol came in third and fourth place for automotive technology. Savannah Greig (automotive tech) , Laynee Ryder (Hairstyling Intermediate), and Valeria Valdez Galaviz (Hairstyling Intermediate) also participated in their respective competitions learning valuable lessons and gaining experience. 

Pidsadowski, Moscaluk, Regimbald, Budgen and LaBouxciere went to the Edmonton Expo Centre on May 7 to 8 for the Skills Alberta Provincial Competition.
