WESTLOCK COUNTY — Firefighters continue to hold the line on two wildfires burning in the region, as containment efforts remain steady and no further growth is expected.
The fire burning near Township Road 630 between Range Roads 261 and 255 (LCU007) is still classified as "being held," with crews monitoring for hot spots throughout the area. The same status applies to the fire located south of Fawcett, between Range Roads 11 and 13 and south of Highway 44 (LCU006).
Both fire sites remain active work zones, and officials are urging the public to avoid the areas to allow firefighting operations to proceed safely.
Ground crews from Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resource Development (AESRD) are assisting with suppression efforts. Officials say the fires are not expected to grow in size.
The next wildfire update is scheduled for 2 p.m. today, May 8. Residents are encouraged to check back for the latest information.
