WESTLOCK – An elderly woman from Chisholm is dead following a fiery, head-on collision roughly 15 kilometres north of the Town of Westlock on Nov. 26.

On Monday, Nov. 28, Westlock RCMP Staff Sgt. Al Baird could only provide scant details of the Saturday-evening crash that occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Highway 44 near Township Road 612 just north of the Pibroch turnoff.

Baird said a southbound Ford F150 pickup truck appears to have crossed the centre line and struck a northbound Chevrolet Malibu — following, the truck burst into flames.

An RCMP release at 10:10 a.m., Nov. 28, confirmed that the driver of the Malibu, an 82-year-old woman from Chisholm, was declared dead at the scene, while the passenger in the car and the driver of the F-150 suffered minor injuries.

Highway 44 was closed until midnight the day of the crash as STARS Air Ambulance was called to the scene, while the RCMP investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing.

“We’re investigating and there are no further details at the time” said Baird just after 9:30 a.m.
