Two Alberta men will face a judge in the new year after a routine traffic stop allegedly found them in possession of marijuana with the purpose of trafficking, RCMP say.

Sgt. Dan Mayowski said they noticed illegal side window tint and pulled the vehicle over on Sunday, Nov. 13 at around 4:45 p.m. on Highway 44, north of Westlock and south of Jarvie.

Upon further investigation, RCMP seized roughly four pounds of marijuana, valued at around $9,600, he said. “It’s a very significant seizure,” he said.

The men, a 22-year-old from Brooks and a 30-year-old from Slave Lake, have both been charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and were released on a promise to appear at a Jan. 18 court date.

Mayowski said he was unable to release their identities since the incident is still under investigation.
