RCMP continue their search for wanted fugitive Curtis Powder after a recent incident in Barrhead.

Barrhead RCMP Sgt. Bob Dodds said that on Oct. 28 Powder, who is at large on a warrant for his arrest, was involved in an altercation where shots were fired at a yard in the County of Barrhead.

Dodds says Powder, along with two women, arrived in the yard where another man was working.

“Powder and his companions exited their car and began walking towards the other male,” said Dodds. “The male armed himself with a shotgun at which point Powder ran away leaving his female companions to fend for themselves.

“The male with the shotgun ran after Powder while one of the females attempted to drive off in the car, nearly hitting the male carrying the shotgun. The male fired two rounds at the car striking the front passenger door and rear wheel.”

Dodds says one of the women was struck in the foot causing a very minor injury, adding that more charges are pending against Powder, the female driver of the car and the male with the shotgun.

Later the same day police observed the same vehicle and two women in a yard in Westlock County, not far from the location of the earlier shooting.

RCMP members spoke with the owner of the property and learned that a man matching Powder’s description had asked the property owner for assistance in repairing a flat tire on the car.

“Members immediately secured the yard and requested assistance from a police dog team and helicopter from Edmonton,” Dodds said. “Once the dog team and helicopter were on scene members began searching the area.

Police arrested the injured female driver from earlier in the day, while the car was also located and seized.

“Unfortunately, once again Powder was able to evade police,” Dodds said.

Westlock RCMP Cpl. Dennis Properzi said as of Friday, Nov. 6 Powder remains at large, adding the detachment welcomes public tips.

“We get anonymous public tips. Obviously some may be valid, but they’re after the fact,” Properzi said.

“It would be nice to have public input. If they see something definitely call.”
