WESTLOCK — The R.F. Staples senior girls' basketball team recently won their home tournament on Feb. 23-24, defeating Sexsmith in the championship final by a score of 52-40.
Prior to the final on Saturday evening, the R.F. Staples girls had defeated Devon in their first match on Friday and went on to beat Parkland Immanuel in their second match on Saturday morning.
Incidentally, the Barrhead Composite High School Gryphons earned bronze at the tournament. They defeated Parkland in their first match on Friday, but lost their second match with Sexsmith on Saturday afternoon, which led to Sexsmith entering the final.
In the bronze medal match with the Parkland Immanuel Penguins, the Gryphons won 56-45.
