One man has been sent to hospital following a gravel truck rollover on Highway 18 east of Clyde last Thursday.

At around 3:45 p.m. on Sept. 27, an eastbound gravel truck with pup trailer went off Highway 18 just east of Range Road 244.

Westlock RCMP Cpl. Dave Casey said the best he could figure was that the truck was driving along the curve in the road when the trailer went off the road.

The driver tried to correct his path and ended up going off the road as well, he said.

The trailer ended up in the field to the south of the highway in two pieces, with the wheeled section resting on its wheels and the bucket upside-down beside the wheels. The truck itself came to rest on its passenger side, blocking part of the eastbound lane.

Casey said the driver survived the crash with serious injuries and was transported to hospital in Edmonton via ground ambulance.

Traffic through the area was rerouted along the county roads, while those vehicles that were closest to the crash were stuck for about 45 minutes until RCMP were able to open one lane to let them through.
