The contrast between the Town of Westlock and Westlock County couldn't have been more stark in advance of the Oct. 16 Municipal Election.
While 17 people let their names stand on Nomination Day, Sept. 18, for the seven available seats in Westlock County, the Town of Westlock's incumbent mayor Ralph Leriger was unopposed and only five initially stepped forward to run for the six-person council.
The town accepted nominations again Sept. 19 and managed to get two more candidates to bring the list to seven.
The Village of Clyde, which didn't have an election in 2013, will have one this fall as seven people, including four incumbents, will vie for five council seats.
As for Pembina Hills Public Schools, interest was decidedly strong with two-person races in town and Westlock South. In Westlock North, incumbent Jackie Comeau was unopposed and will serve another four-year term.
Finally, Caren Mueller is back as the Westlock Ward trustee for the Evergreen Catholic Separate Regional Division No. 2 - the school division which oversees St. Mary School.
