Westlock RCMP are investigating a Sept. 7 robbery that saw a lone male walked into the Shoppers Drug Mart pharmacy, fill a bag with behind-the-counter pharmaceuticals and then walk out.

The incident took place just before the store was supposed to close for the night at 9 p.m. — no one was injured.

RCMP are not releasing many details as they search for a suspect and declined to name the drugs taken or their worth, so as not to compromise the investigation.

Westlock RCMP Staff Sgt. Al Baird did say some of the stolen pharmaceuticals were narcotics, which are not all that common in the local drug trade as are drug store robberies, though neither are completely unheard of.

“It doesn’t happen often. It’s the first time I’ve seen it here,” said Baird, but noted there have been recent pharmacy robberies in the region.

“They just walk in and do their thing and walk out,” he said.

Baird said he expects more information to be released this week.
