Suspect granted bail following contested hearing

WESTLOCK – Bret Hogg was granted bail in Westlock Court of Justice on Wednesday following a contested bail hearing after the prosecutor had opposed his release. 

The Crown had contested Hogg’s release, arguing both primary grounds, concerning flight risk, and secondary grounds, relating to public safety concerns.

Hogg faces charges of assault, unlawful confinement, and failing to comply with release conditions. 

Judge Gordon Putnam granted Hogg a $200 cash bail. 

Hogg is scheduled back in court Aug. 28.
