Westlock RCMP have revealed the identity of the man killed in the Nov. 22 Tawatinaw-area blaze as 75-year-old Andrew Lukach.

The home near Township Road 614 and Range Road 245 burned to the ground overnight, undetected by neighbours.

The fire was not reported to police until early the next morning when the home had already been destroyed.

Staff. Sgt. Bryan Clayton said Lukach was the only resident of the property and his cause of death is still under investigation.

The Medical Examiner’s office is awaiting toxicology and blood reports to determine the cause of death and results are not expected for several months.

RCMP Cpl. Dave Casey said, in the days following the incident, that an autopsy was scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 24, although the identity of the man was not released until late last week.

He said the fire did not appear to be arson and when an accelerant-sniffing dog was brought to the scene, nothing was detected.

The cause of the fire is not yet known and the investigation is still ongoing, Clayton said, adding it does not appear to be suspicious.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call Westlock RCMP at 780-349-4492.
