Teen faces murder charge

A Westlock teenager faces a second-degree murder charge following the early-morning shooting of a 62-year-old man. RCMP received a 911 call at 12:10 a.m. Aug. 2 that a man was believed to be injured as a result of a gunshot wound.

RCMP received a 911 call at 12:10 a.m. Aug. 2 that a man was believed to be injured as a result of a gunshot wound.

When RCMP arrived at the home, located on 106 Street just east of downtown, they found the 62-year-old man deceased. RCMP say both parties knew each other.

A 17-year-old boy has been charged with second degree murder — his name cannot be released under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. He is currently in police custody and is scheduled to appear in Westlock Provincial Court Aug. 7.

Police are not releasing the name of the deceased at this time, while an autopsy on the victim was scheduled for Aug. 5 in Edmonton.

Westlock RCMP, with the assistance of the K Division Major Crimes Unit and the Forensic Identification Section continue to investigate. No additional details are being released at this time.
