The 101st annual Westlock and District Agricultural Fair is all set to roll Aug. 21-23.

The massive festival drew almost 19,000 people last year, and is well on its way to match or even clear that this month.

'We usually get up to 10,000 people on the first day, and then by the time the derby happens we're getting close to 19,000." said Bob Jones, who's been president of the Westlock Agricultural Society for 20 years.

'We're hoping to exceed that this year. The weatherman even looks like he's going to co-operate."

The weekend kicks off with Friday's parade then transitions to the fair grounds where there'll be a huge variety of exhibits and shows, including carnival rides, a two-day rodeo, demolition derby, chuckwagon races and horse show.

Farmers from around the county and beyond can display their best work for all to see, be it their best crop or a collection of photos.

'We're going to have a huge barn half full of vendor exhibits," said Jones. 'They will have all sorts of plants and handicrafts for sale, you name it, there's everything. Crafts, books, toy tractors, and a lot of crafts such as woodwork that people make."

In addition to the vendors, performers and organizers, the fair also relies on close to 300 volunteers to put up fences, set up booths, direct traffic and ensure that things run smoothly for the three days.

'I would like to thank our team of volunteers," said Jones. 'We would not be able to do this every year without them."

Entrance to the fair is $10 a day for adults, $5 for kids aged 6-13 and children under 6 get in free. A three-day weekend pass is also available for $25.
