Three separate serious vehicle accidents took place on area roads last week resulting in one fatality and the hospitalization of two others.

On July 25, at approximately 12:30 p.m., emergency crews and firefighters from the county and Town of Westlock, along with STARS Air Ambulance, responded to a single vehicle accident on Highway 661, near Range Road 251, after the female driver of a truck went off the road and had to be extracted.

She was flown to hospital in Edmonton via STARS. Her status is currently unknown.

On July 24, a 36-year-old man was killed following a collision between his car and a semi-truck hauling lumber on Highway 44, two kilometres south of Riviere Qui Barre.

He was the lone occupant in the car, while the 34-year-old driver of the semi sustained minor injuries.

Morinville RCMP were called to the scene at approximately 3:40 p.m. that day after the collision between the southbound truck and northbound car. Investigators and clean-up crews were on scene until 10:30 p.m. The highway was closed and northbound traffic was diverted at Highway 37, while southbound traffic were directed to use Township Road 554 as an alternate route.

Meanwhile on July 26, at approximately 6:30 p.m., emergency medical services and Westlock County Fire Services were called to the scene of a single vehicle accident on Highway 18, just west of Clyde, after the male driver of a dirt bike was seen laying, unconscious, on the side of the highway.

The biker regained consciousness soon after he was discovered and was taken to hospital.

No details on his condition or the circumstances of the incident were available before press time.
