WESTLOCK — Morinville RCMP say they want to talk to the driver of a vehicle involved in a near head-on collision last Tuesday morning on Highway 44 just over the Westlock County line.
Morinville RCMP Corp. Jeff Sutherland said RCMP received two calls at 11:32 a.m. Sept. 27 regarding a three-vehicle collision on Highway 44 near Township Road 572.
Sutherland said a man, who police have not identified, was travelling north in a sedan, and veered over the centre line, colliding with both semis in the southbound lane. The man suffered “non-life-threatening injuries” and was transported by EMS to Westlock Healthcare Centre.
“It’s still under investigation at the moment. Police will probably want to talk to the driver of the car once he is better,” said Sutherland.
Drugs, alcohol and speed are not believed to have been factors, however, the RCMP are looking into mental health issues as a possible factor and it’s unknown if charges will be laid.
The drivers of the two semis, one hauling lumber and the other a loaded tanker, were not injured in the crash. Traffic was delayed for about two hours while the highway was cleaned up.
