The Town of Westlock will hold its first byelection since 2015 on Wednesday (Jan. 10) to elect a new councillor and new mayor.
The byelection was called in November following the resignations of Mayor Ralph Leriger, who stepped down to pursue a role in private industry, and Coun. Jon Kramer, who resigned from council in order to run for mayor.
Kramer and former town councillor and mayoral candidate Robin Brett are on the ballot for mayor, while five candidates have stepped forward for council, including Laurie Hodge, Benita Pedersen, Alair Plett, Derrill Rayner and David Truckey.
Voting will take place Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the Alberta Room at the Westlock & District Community Hall (10711 104 Ave.)
Voters must be Canadian citizens, 18 years of age or older, residents of Alberta and with a place of residence in the Town of Westlock as of election day.
Voters must validate their identity and address with a piece of identification, which can include:
• Government-issued photo ID
• Utility bills;
• Bank statements;
• School or university correspondence;
• Government cheques;
• Income or property tax assessment notices;
• Insurance policy or coverage card;
• Pension plan statement; or
• An attestation of residence, letter of stay, admission form or statement of benefits from the responsible authority of a shelter or soup kitchen.
