Two face multiple charges following takedown near Jarvie

RCMP helicopter called in to assist in Jan. 19 arrests
Westlock RCMP are looking to roll out a Positive Ticketing Program this spring. The program would reward youth for doing good deeds.

WESTLOCK – Two men from outside the region face charges ranging from possession of stolen property, to failing to comply with release-order conditions, following an incident near Jarvie that saw the RCMP helicopter flown in to provide additional support.

Westlock RCMP Cpl. Riley Sutherland said that in the late-afternoon of Jan. 19, they received a trespassing complaint from a rural property owner near Jarvie. There they found a stolen vehicle on the property, while two male suspects had fled the scene on foot.

Following, additional members were called in from Athabasca, Redwater and the Alberta RCMP Traffic – Westlock Unit to help find the two, who police say ended up stealing a second vehicle from within the Hamlet of Jarvie.

“And we were able to track them by the RCMP Air Services helicopter and the GPS unit within the vehicle. It was all hands on deck,” she said.

Both men, who RCMP haven’t named, are currently behind bars at the Edmonton Remand Centre and face 11 charges in total with their first appearance in Westlock Provincial Court slated for Feb. 1.
