UPDATE: Residents allowed to return home

As of 4:15 p.m., April, 30, Highridge-area fire is being held

WESTLOCK/BARRHEAD - As of 5:30 p.m., April 30, Westlock and Barrhead RCMP advise that residents who were evacuated due to the Highridge-area wildfire can go home.

However, police say that Township Road 592 between Range Roads 14-15 is not passable as it's the staging area for fire and RCMP crews and that it'll remain closed until at least May 1.

Just before 2 p.m., April 30, RCMP issued an immediate evacuation order for people living in the area of Township Road 592 and 594 and Range Road 15 and 24 near the Highridge area and also advised that anyone living within two miles north of the location were on a 15-minute “ready to leave” warning.

Fire crews have been busy throughout the day battling the blaze but as of 4:15 p.m., Westlock County Fire Services noted in a Facebook post that the fire is currently being held.
