CLYDE - The continued dry, hot weather and increasing fire-hazard risk has led the Village of Clyde fire chief to enact a fire restriction for the municipality effective 2:30 p.m., May 1.

As it stands, fires within the village are only allowed in fire pits that have been inspected and approved by the fire department and conditions outlined in those permits must be followed — open burning outside of a fire pit is not allowed.

No new permits for fire pits will be issued, while the use of fire pits for cooking and warming, propane BBQs, portable propane fireplaces and heaters is allowed.

“The Village of Clyde is asking that everyone use extreme caution during this dry and hot weather in our region,” reads the statement from the village.

Additional fire safety tips note to have a hose nearby and keep it turned on at all times when having a fire. Burning of any kind, including in a fire pit, during windy days is not recommended. Make sure your fire is fully out before you leave it by spraying it with your hose until it stops steaming and never leave your fire burning unattended.

As of May 3, Westlock County remains under a total fire ban, while the Town of Westlock is under a fire restriction.
