WESTLOCK — Local businessman and Pembina Hills School Division trustee David Truckey is looking to return to council to contribute to good local government and make a difference in the community he calls home.
“I have always been a person who wanted to give back to the community that they live in,” said Truckey. “More than ever I believe that our town needs good local government and good governance. We have been fortunate in Westlock to have witnessed that over the last several years, and I would like to see that continue.”
Truckey and his wife Sandra have been Westlock residents for most of their lives, have raised their children and operated their restaurant business here for over 30 years. He considers Westlock their home and a community he truly cares about.
During the last general election, Truckey took a break from municipal politics but made a decision to run in the Jan. 10, 2024 byelection after “receiving encouragement from council and many people in both the town and county.”
Truckey’s tenure as town councillor is one of his greatest personal accomplishments, during which time, he connected with people in the community, worked to better understand the daily needs for municipal services like water and wastewater, recreation, and maintaining streets that residents use every day while providing a safe and caring community.
“If elected as your councillor, I will again work towards these goals each and every day,” he said.
In his many years on council, Truckey was involved in several committees including the Westlock Regional Water Services Commission, the Westlock Regional Waste Management Commission, Homeland Housing, FCSS, and the Municipal Library Board.
“Of the many community projects I was involved with along the way the one that I was most involved in and proud of was the expansion at Pembina Lodge,” said Truckey. “(It is) a great addition to the seniors housing needs in our community.”
