WESTLOCK — Westlock resident Derrill Rayner wants to work towards unifying the community through honesty, transparency and a commitment to represent each member if elected to sit on council.

“I am running for Westlock town council out of a sincere love for the community and a desire to help shape and protect its future,” said Rayner. “I see a town with unlimited potential and my vision is for a healthy, growing business sector providing employment and security for the residents and a sustainable financial base for the town as well as an environment that encourages growth, family-oriented activities and community involvement.”

Looking to the future, he said the citizens of Westlock have “every right to determine the direction their town takes.”

He and his wife Starla have called Westlock home for 13 years and have raised their children, knowing the “value of a safe, affordable, family-oriented community.”

Rayner has been a member of the Municipal Planning Commission and has developed an understanding of the processes that help shape Westlock's growth. As councillor he said he will leverage this expertise to ensure sustainable development, enhance community infrastructure, and promote a harmonious balance between growth and preserving the cherished values of Westlock.

Owning and operating his own trucking company with 40 years of experience in the industry, has provided him with several essential qualities for effective municipal leadership, including “understanding and appreciation of the hard-working people who make up our town, an entrepreneurial background and practical know-how for economic dynamics, strategic planning, budgeting, and fostering growth.”

"My commitment to local businesses and the foresight gained from steering my own company positions me as an advocate for economic development,” he said, noting his hands-on experience will help drive initiatives to move Westlock forward, ensuring its prosperity and resilience for generations.

“I believe that our elected officials answer to the citizens who elected them and have a duty to respect their opinion rather than tell them what their opinion should be.”
