WESTLOCK — After moving to Westlock in January 2023, Alair Plett wants to be a voice for the community and make changes to better the town.
A businessman in Alberta for 23 years, he has witnessed the “rise and fall of the economy, of employment and basic life security over the years,” and noted despite claims of a “progressive society, there seems to be more division than ever.”
“Our country has strayed a long way from biblical principles,” said Plett. “As a believer myself, I think it's very important to get back to these principles which are transparency, honesty, integrity, open communication, and the willingness to hear and act on behalf of our Westlock citizens.”
Plett worked in the forestry industry before buying his first logging truck. He went to college for his welding certificate and ran a large logging show on Queen Charlotte Islands and later on Vancouver Island. He then relocated to Edson in 2000 where he lived until moving to Westlock in January.
Having owned multiple businesses in Alberta since 2000, he feels his business experience has given him “valuable assets to be a town councillor.”
Plett said he finds Westlock to be a very friendly and welcoming community and he wants to be more involved, listen to concerns and bring everyone’s opinions and ideas forward.
“I believe the division is centred around the loss of the basic principles of transparency, honesty, integrity, open communication and the willingness to listen and act for the best interest of all persons,” he said. “This is a concern for myself, my family and the citizens of Westlock. For these reasons, I hope to make a positive difference in this small community and serve the residents of Westlock.”
